Frequently asked questions
Are my files private?
Tools marked “Runs in your browser” process your file on your own device and never upload it. Tools that need our server upload the file over an encrypted connection, process it in a private folder and delete the result automatically after 2 hours. You can delete it sooner yourself.
Is GetFileTools free?
Yes. Most tools are free to use. Some advanced tools or higher limits are part of a Pro plan, and the plans page lists exactly what each one includes.
Do I need an account?
Not for the free tools. An account lets you keep a history of your jobs, get higher limits and upgrade to Pro.
Will the formatting stay the same after converting?
We keep layout, tables and images as closely as the conversion engine allows. Very complex designs can shift a little, and scanned pages need OCR first. We always tell you when a result may need a quick review.
What file size can I use?
The limit is shown on every tool page. Free accounts have a standard limit and Pro plans allow larger files.
Can I edit text that is already in a PDF?
The Edit PDF tool adds text, drawings, images and signatures on top of a page, and can cover old content with a white box. It does not rewrite the original text layer. For heavy text changes, convert the PDF to Word.
